I have a hard time even linking the two, honestly. they feel related like gears and saga are.

CCs fast forward sucks because its so good but you can only use it on replays when the difficulty is trivial.

All the PC Trails games have it now! It's great. The PS4 ones have it too.

Do other RPGs have a fast forward? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Beastars beated. Solid show. Apparently I had no idea what it was about (I thought it was going to be about police or something maybe?), but I wasn't really excited by the high school setting. Legosi was an intriguing protagonist, and Haru was pretty fun too. Wasn't really interested in the rest of the cast though. Louis was super boring, so the episodes without him were better. Kinda disappointed they went with a girl getting kidnapped arc for the end, since that felt a lot more generic and cliched than most of the show, but the stuff after that was more interesting. The world the author created was neat in a few ways, but it felt a little half-baked. Not sure how interested I am in a second season, but I can see it being better (especially if there's less Louis).

One thing I really wish is that the show did more interlude type things with random characters. Those are great for worldbuilding and make the world feel more real. The cold open with Legom was one of my favorite parts of the show.

Celeste's pretty good, but I'm definitely not THAT hot on it. Would probably rank it as the... fourth best 2D platformer still, just because there aren't a ton I love, oddly enough? SMW > Meat Boy DKC trilogy > Celeste or something. SMB1's the only other one I can think of that I'm particularly into, oddly enough, if you don't count Metroidvanias as platformers anyway.

You ever play Dead Cells? It feels pretty great to play, IMO.

Ascendance of a Bookworm completed. Oh hey finally a Fall show that's just plain great! I liked pretty much everything about this (other than its slightly slow pacing - they probably could've fit the show into 13 episodes with any difficulty). Definitely the best isekai show I've watched in quite a while. It reminds me that having an OP protagonist is just stupid. Her power is her knowledge, and that's more than enough. On top of that, she has a terrible weakness, which makes her even more compelling. It's pretty neat to have a series where the protagonist can't even walk down the stairs without collapsing at first (and she doesn't even get particularly fit by the end of it!). The author understands that it's weakness that makes characters compelling most of the time.

The whole cast is pretty sweet. Myne is, of course, a great protagonist, and the rest fit in very well. Her whole family feels fairly real, and the adult characters are fun too, along with Lutz. The developments are basically constantly interesting. You definitely get the feeling of the MC struggling to make her way in thet world. Every triumph is delightful, and every failure is heartbreaking. Definitely looking forward to S2 here.

Out of curiosity, how would you rank the Ys games? I've played Felghana and thought it was okay, Dana and loved it, and now I'm playing with Celceta, which is also okay but feels like a massive step back from what we got with Dana (so much so that it's hard to believe Dana is only four years newer).

I wish I had played AM2R when it was everywhere. I would have no idea how to even get there now, if its even possible, but it sounds so good. Much better than Metroid 2, at least! Truth be told, the M2 remake on the 3DS didnt even resonate super strongly with me either. It might be that game!

V is undoubtedly one of the best indie games of the past decade, right there with Hollow Knight and Celeste for me.

The moment where Nero first uses his Devil Trigger in the final battle and does the transformation by giving Vergil the finger and saying "FUCK YOU!" made me laugh so hard. Genius moment right there. I liked it quite a bit more than 4 overall. Dante was the funnest. I didn't really get Exceed in this game.

And yeah Trish and Lady basically had no reason to be in this game lol.

I'd be happy to call CT my favorite game. It's hovered around #1 since I first played it back in '95.

I also enjoy splitscreen multiplayer in general, but I can see being against that. The graphics get turned off when you play with more players, so it's definitely less visually impressive.

I liked KH2 a lot more than one but still felt like Twilight Town and Roxas were lame.

First reply to the topic nailed it. Bayonetta 2 and Revengeance both had amazing first levels. Among the best parts of the game, honestly!

I played a good amount of multiplayer and had lots of fun with that. Just wish it had an X-Cup like F-Zero X did.

JRPGs may not be known for treating female characters well, but the gulf between X1 and X2 in that regard is gigantic. In terms of "would be embarrassing to play around other people", X2 might take the #1 spot outside of actual porn games and maybe Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It's amazing how little I'm looking forward to a potential X3 considering X1 is like, my favorite game.

Dunno if you played it, but Torna deletes most of that embarrassment. Not quite all, but it's closer to the other XB games.

I did like XB2 overall more than XB1, but it definitely had a lot more flaws. I ended up liking most of the Blades more than a bunch of the main cast members. And this is one of those games that really suffers from voice-acted cutscene direction. Why are there so many pauses!?

I played Cave Story+ for the first time last year and it mostly just felt kinda archaic? Like, it was impressive that this thing was created in 2004, but nowadays there are plenty of similar games I like much better coming out regularly.

Said shy girl is the worst part of the show! Her whole "held back for a year" gimmick is totally meaningless, too. There's a lot of shy girl main characters I like way more than this one (Hitoribocchi, most recently).

I actually prefer the movement in P3P. Makes everything feel a lot snappier. Kinda improves the pacing? P4 and P5 would drag a little less with movement like that I think.

also I dunno if any of the anime cutscenes in these games are great

I actually thought DQXI was great after not being a fan of VIII. The pacing is much better and everything just feels nicer in general. I wasn't a fan of Part 3 though. Kind of ruined a lot of the impact of Part 2, personally. Game would've been better off without it.

This is actually an interesting way of framing it. When you consider it that way, its not so bad. But yeah, when its 250 hours worth of content to go through it becomes so daunting. Can you skip all that early stuff at all?

I think FFXIV's next patch is supposed to give you a thing where you can skip the real tedious section of the game between the main game and the first expansion? Not sure when that's expected out though. Sometime in 2020 I assume?
